The kitchen has not always been a social gathering space. Now with open concept floor plans and larger kitchen spaces, it has become the heart of the home regardless of if you enjoy cooking or not! With the KBIS 2016 (Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) recently wrapping up, we are truly excited to incorporate a few of these up-and-coming designs into our show homes this year. Some of the hottest new trends are mixed metals and colored appliances (which are making a comeback with a little more style than the classic Harvest Gold of the 70’s).
black is the new black
Once noted as a cheaper style to stainless steel, black is becoming a 2016 staple color for appliances. There are a growing number of black appliance options, the right one just depends on your style. Our focus is on fridges.
The Bosch Black Glass Counter Depth fridge has a glass front lying overtop a metal door, giving this appliance a sleek and modern feel with added durability. Currently only available in black and white, we are hoping to see more colors available in the near future. If you’re looking for more of a retro feel, the Smeg 50’s Retro Style Aesthetic fridge gives your kitchen character with its rounded edges, aero-dynamic pulls, and classic style. GE Artistry Series Fridge, now available in black or white, is a twist on the classic style with a high gloss finish and stainless steel handles. The Artistry Series has other appliances to match, giving your kitchen a cohesive kick of cool! And last but not least, the Kitchen Aid Stainless French Door in Black Stainless. This fridge is a stunning happy medium between classic style and modern design. It may just star in our upcoming show home this year….stay tuned!
Add some spice to your space and turn up the heat…
The Big Chill has been a household name for decades, and now has several colorful options to fit your style: retro, professional, or classic. These ranges will forever be unique with several metal trim options to coincide with the colored stainless steel options. Having a Big Chill item in your kitchen will forever be a major conversation starter in your home. Elmira Stove Works is a Canadian based company that has retro appliances with modern luxuries readily available in Canada. With the right kitchen design, this could be the star of the show. If you are looking for a more contemporary style, and not quite ready to brave a bright colored range, GE offers a slate finish that is just different enough to take your kitchen to the next level without being too loud.
We will soon see new and innovative materials used on overlooked areas of the kitchen – such as show stopping hood fans and sinks. Farmhouse sinks, like the ones from Native Trails, are growing in popularity but will now be seen in new finishes such as hammered nickel, colored concrete, and aged copper. If this isn’t impressive enough, there is a rumor that granite sinks may start popping up in homes this year. For any secondary sinks in your kitchen or bar area, why not try out an innovative new shape like a half moon?
